Recommended Maintenance for Tier 4 Final Engines
Maintenance of your diesel engine is something you plan for up front. After all, you want your engine to last just as long as the machine that it powers. The diesel engine is not a complex machine. In order to keep your machine running smoothly you should change your fluids, filters, and belts at the required intervals, keep an eye on the air cleaner indicator and test the freezing point of the coolant every winter.
However, there is now a complex version of a muffler with emissions after treatment that is very expensive and needs to be monitored closely. You can still perform the “basic” maintenance yourself, but you must make sure to use the exact specified lube oil.
The after treatment will not function properly unless you use the specific low ash oil. This also applies to the antifreeze. It is best to check with the engine manufacturer representative first before replacing the oil or coolant. Additionally, if there is an error code flashing on the display, your best bet is to call the nearest servicing dealer so they can diagnose and fix the problem.
